What are Klinger, Klingerit, Tesnit, Garlock, Belpa joints?

All these names are trademarks of the same product: the boards currently manufactured in compressed cardboard free of asbestos.

In the past, asbestos was used to manufacture gaskets, but its use was prohibited on June 15, 2002, and it was now manufactured in this type of asbestos-free cardboard. That is why they continue to be identified with the acronym CAFG (Compressed Asbestos Fiber Gasket) although they are really now CSFG (Compressed Synthetic Fiber Gasket).

Similarly, Klinger® gaskets (the original ones made with asbestos) were also manufactured without it, but their trade name is still a reference in the market, hence they are a reference search.

There are two versions for all the Klinger-type asbestos-free compressed cardboard sheets that we supply under the Belpa brand:

  • The “M” versions: with internal metal mesh. They have more resistance to compression, but also a lower sealability.
  • The “G” versions: graphitized surface. They prevent the joint from adhering to the installation, facilitating frequent replacement.

Uses of Klinger Type Joints

The joints made of Klinger-type compressed cardboard have fibers impregnated in rubber to perform the structural function, since they have been manufactured from the vulcanization under pressure of elastomers with synthetic fibers.

These Klinger-type gaskets are cheap in relation to the task they perform, which is why they are the most used materials in the manufacture of industrial gaskets.

For this reason, their use is very wide and diverse, being used in most industrial applications, as long as the margins of use of their chemical characteristics are respected.
